Artificial Intelligence Learning Intervention
Why we need an A.I.L.I. (Artificial Intelligence Learning Intervention) in an age of A.I. Automation - By Nadir Shirazi M.Ed. Workplace Learning and Social Change
The fact that numerous Artificial Intelligence tools could have written this write up for me in multiple versions, in 5 seconds is the very reason I came up with the term A.I.L.I. Artificial Intelligence Learning Intervention.
A.I. helped me create the images for this site, the layout, the research, it adjusted how it spoke to me, acted like a feedback loop late into the night, and made me less reliant on even my business partners, family and friends. It isolated me with its sheer effectiveness, and made me question if I was needed at all.
I needed to stop myself. I needed an intervention.
Because I feel like I am losing the years I spent learning to write, research, collaborate with other and the cognitive functions and social bonds that come with them. Basically I think I am not only losing my intellect at times but am losing where I start and A.I. ends.
But it's not just me. A.I. is automating any and every industry, education setting, and walk of life. Early research from Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon is showing that the more we rely on A.I. the less we hold onto our critical skills. They are literally deteriorating. Other research from Environics and the Diversity Institute shows that those of us using A.I. the most at work are paradoxically the most worried it will replace us.
In our A.I. prompting realities we are creating digital versions of ourselves, that are offloading mental functions we worked hard to acquire, or in some cases won't see a need to acquire in the first place. What is the human and financial cost of our A.I. anxiety? How are we supposed to re-imagine A.I. automated workplaces if we have lost the ability to imagine because we were rushing to keep up and use A.I.?
So as someone who formerly helped curate, create, and design e-learning content for a Canada wide research upskilling project (OCC Skills Bridge LMS) I have evaluated thousands of pieces of content, many on A.I. training.
This isn't one of them.
It's an A.I.L.I.
So My team and I created Is A.I. Altering Adam's Mind as an interactive research backed assessment framework and e-learning series that looks like it's fun, but seriously challenges you and makes you reflect every time you use A.I., and the next time, and the next time….
PS Yes Adam is my A.I. Avatar!
PPS Also yes I did in fact write this myself.
